MCPF Penang Chairman YBhg. Dato’ Seri Ong Poh Eng led its SLC Members to pay a Courtesy Visit to Datuk Bandar (Mayor) YBhg. Dato’ Ir. Rajendran a/l P. Anthony, PEPC: Majlis Bandaraya Pulau Pinang (City Council of Penang Island) at the Mayor’s Office, MBPP, Level 17, KOMTAR on Tuesday 2nd January 2024. The Agenda covered a Welcome by Datuk Bandar; Self Introduction by MCPF Members present; Opening Remarks by Dato’ Seri Ong Pooh Eng; a short overview of MCPF by Secretary JM Tan; a Dialogue Session between MBPP and MCPF Penang. In attendance were MBPP hosts that included the Mayor; Encik Azman bin Sirun, Director, Management Services Department; Encik Noorazrein bin Noorazlan Ong, Director, Enforcement; Mr. Yong Woo Soon, Engineer; Ms. Crystal Chiam Shiying, Asst. Director, Communications and Encik Mohd Feroze bin Mohd Noor, Asst. Director, Keselamatan (Safety and Security) who is also MCPF Penang SLC ex-officio (MBPP). MCPF Penang comprised of YBhg. Dato’ Seri Ong Poh Eng, Chairman; YBhg. Dato’ Seri K. Pulayantran, Deputy Chairman; Johnny Michael Tan, Secretary; YBhg. Dato’ M. Kaleessvaran, Committee Member; Felix Chuah Gim Chuan, Timur Laut DLC Chairman; James Mohan, Barat Daya DLC Chairman; Paramaguru Balan Moghan, SPS DLC Chairman; Ridzuan Md Zain, SPT DLC Chairman; and Committee Members Joseph Sawaremuthu, Victor Lim Kok Hooi, Rahumathullah Ibrahim and Yazid Razali.

Dato’ Seri Ong Poh Eng highlighted that it is MCPF Penang’s desire to work closely with MBPP and PDRM to make Penang a Safe City. He emphasized the focus on Crime Prevention Awareness especially on SCAMs where a user friendly QR Code link on posters, billboards and other means; and at Schools with regards to Bullying and Drug Abuse etc. He envisaged countermeasures to include the setup and use of CCTVs at targeted schools. Dato’ Ong also underlined MCPF Penang’s self volunteering roles and the its members steadfast efforts on working with MBPP, PDRM, Governmental Agencies and others in Crime Prevention Awareness efforts. Dato’ Ir. Rajendran explained MBPP’s efforts to make Penang Island a safer City through extensive CCTV coverage of ‘Hot Spot’ areas to monitor traffic, snatch thefts and motorcycle thefts etc. He outlined the erecting of safety railings as a snatch theft deterrent. The setting up of ‘convex mirrors’ to enhance visibility to traffic blind spots is also key. Dato’ Ir. Rajendran shared that the revitalising of the Safe City Program is in the works post Covid-19 and provided a suggestion that MCPF Penang could work closely with Kementerian Perumahan dan Kerajaan Tempatan (Ministry of Housing and Local Government). He underlined MBPP’s commitment to support MCPF Penang and to liaise closely with Mohd Feroze bin Mohd Noor on various programs and initiatives. This was a short and impactful dialogue that bodes well for further enhancements of MCPF Penang and MBPP cooperation and teamwork.
