
MCPF Penang participated and supported an IPK Perak virtual Townhall Event on Cyber Scams entitled “Cabaran dalam menangani kes penipuan atas talian dan langkah-langkah mengelak dari menjadi mangsa penipuan” on 26th August 2021. Panel Speakers included YDH CP Dato’ Pahlawan Mior Faridalathrash bin Wahid, CPO Perak; YDH Toh Muda Orang Kaya Panglima Kinta Seri Amar Banga Diraja Dato’ Seri Azizul Hassan, Orang Besar Jajahan Kinta representing MCPF Perak; YDH SAC Mohd Alwi bin Zainal Abidin, Head of Dept Crime Prevention and Community Safety, Perak; and YDH Supt. Hasbullah bin Abd Rahman, Head of Dept Commercial Crime Investigation, Perak. This morning event Zoom was facilitated by Mr. KT Pillai. MCPF Penang Virtual attendees were Secretary cum SPT Timur Laut Chairman Dr. EL Ching, SLC Member cum SPT DLC Treasurer Ridzuan Md Zain and SLC Member cum Timur Laut DLC Chairman JM Tan. This session was a good reiteration on issues and challenges with regards to scams. Presentation covered key aspects including modus operandi, psychological ‘fear tactics’ threats, syndicates behind such scams, even ‘professionals’ falling victim, crime prevention requiring commitment and dedication by all concerned, encouraging scam victims to report, close cooperation between Police and NGOs like MCPF being cited and a reminder that Government authorities never pursue crime issues via phone calls. In conclusion the concerns and challenges covered were all too familiar and public awareness needs to be an ongoing process.
