MCPF Penang hands over 3,000 copies of Sexual Harassment booklets to Women’s Centre for Change (WCC) Penang

MCPF Penang handed over 3,000 copies of Sexual Harassment booklets titled “Samir & His Online Friend” / “Samir & Kawan Onlinenya” to Women’s Centre for Change (WCC) Penang on 14th March 2024.  This Program was hosted by 1. Ms. Annie Yeap, WCC President; 2. Ms. Loh Cheng Kooi, WCC Executive Director; 3. Ms. YY Yeap, WCC Community Outreach Lead; and 4. Ms. Bhawani Nadarajan, WCC Honorary Treasurer (& MCPF Penang SLC ex-officio [WCC]. Ms. Yun Chu, WCC Intern was in attendance as well. MCPF Penang was led by YBhg. Dato’ Seri Ong Poh Eng, Chairman accompanied by YBhg. Dato’ Seri K. Pulayantran, Deputy Chairman; Johnny Michael Tan, Secretary; Felix Chuah Gim Chuan, Timur Laut DLC Chairman; Munusamy Muniandy, SPU DLC Chairman; YBhg. Dato’ M. Kaleessvaran, Committee Member; and, Victor Lim Kok Hooi, Committee Member. The Agenda encompassed 1. Welcome by Ms. Loh Cheng Kooi & Introduction of WCC Attendees; 2. Introduction of MCPF Penang Attendees; 3. Address by Dato’ Seri Ong Poh Eng; 4. Address by Ms. Loh Cheng Kooi; and, 5. Video viewing: “The Party”. This handing over of 1,000 copies of “Samir & His Online Friend” (English) and 2,000 copies of “Samir & Kawan Onlinenya” (BM) from MCPF Penang to WCC Penang is a (companion) follow up program to the 2nd September 2022 handover of 2,000 copies of Lisa and Her Secret (BM & Mandarin). This new series of Samir will be used in the WCC School outreach program to bring awareness of ‘Sexual Harassment and Abuse’ of students (both Private Schools & Sekolah Kebangsaan).

Dato’ Seri Ong Poh Eng underlined MCPF Penang’s support to WCC in their vision, mission and objectives at both State and District levels. He also shared MCPF Penang’s current pursuit of fund raising, school bullying, SCAM related issues, and others in cognizance with PDRM and Government Agencies. Ms. Loh Cheng Kooi shared that WCC Penang had reached out to 39 schools in 2023. She also underlined the importance and challenges of reaching out to the community through the effective use of social media. The 6 minute video “The Party” was shared where there was emphasis on the issues faced through Sexual Grooming leading primarily to victims aged 13-15 falling prey to such crimes.
