As an important follow-up to the recent 24th January 2019 official Visit and Study Tour of Seberang Perai Prison, Jawi by MCPF Penang (and covered in the Press: NST 3rd February 2019); a positive and informal meeting was held at Penang Golf Club after the monthly Police Golf / Lunch to discuss on how MCPF Penang could work with the local industry in assisting prison inmates, prison parolees and ex-inmates to find employment and be reintegrated back into society as reformed / value-added citizens. The possibility of sub-contracting certain jobs to the prison could also be considered. Interesting areas include bread making, pastry / cake making, food preparation for events (like weddings); Dhobi, Tailoring, Rattan work, cobblers’ work, ironwork, woodwork and handicrafts. Having such work to be carried out in premises outside of the prison but gazetted as one with proper security systems provided by the Prison Department could invariably lead to reduced Operational expenditures for our Prison Department. This path ahead will be exciting yet challenging!
