
The official Closing Ceremony of Penang Goes Orange 2023 was held at SMK Bandar Tasek Mutiara, Simpang Ampat, SPS on 9th December 2023. YBhg. Dato’ Ong Bee Leng, CEO of Penang Women’s Development Welfare (PWDC) and YB Lim Siew Khim, EXCO, Social Development, Welfare and non-Islamic Affairs delivered the Opening and Closing Speeches respectively. MCPF Penang Chairman YBhg. Dato’ Seri Ong Poh Eng led a sizeable MCPF Team including YBhg. Dato’ Seri K. Pulayantran (Deputy Chairman); Johnny Michael Tan (Secretary); James Mohan (Barat Daya DLC Chairman); Paramaguru Balan Moghan (SPS DLC Chairman); Ridzuan Md Zain (SPT DLC Chairman); Munusamy Muniandy (SPU DLC Chairman); YBhg. Dato’ M. Kaleessvaran (Committee Member); Joseph Sawaremuthu (Committee Member & Task Force Member of PGO 2023); Rahumathullah Ibrahim (Committee Member & Task Force Member of PGO 2023); Komogan a/l Lingam (SPS DLC Committee Member); Cikgu Fadzil Sadikin (Asst. Director of Student Affairs, Student Development Sector & MCPF Penang ex-officio SLC Member) and Pn. Mangleswary Subramaniam, Head of Women’s Development and Leadership, PWDC & MCPF Penang ex-officio SLC Member). Also in Attendance were YBrs. Tuan Mohammad Said bin Ibrahim, Deputy Director, (Penang State Education Department, Student Development Sector); YDH DSP Shanizan bin Saad (representing YDH Puspanathan a/l Wiresingam, Head of Crime Prevention and Community Safety, Police HQ, Penang); YBrs. Assoc. Prof Dr. Muhammad Rahim Kamaludin, UKM, Criminologist); School Principals from Secondary Schools, Penang; Heads and representatives from Participating Partners & Sponsors of Penang Goes Orange 2023; Heads and Staff of Penang Women’s Development Corporation; PDRM Police Officers; Heads of Departments & Staff of Penang State Education Department. An absorbing Motivational Talk was delivered by Assoc. Prof Dr. Muhammad Rahim Kamaludin. This closing ceremony had all the collaborative Partners & Sponsors from Government Agencies and NGOs recognized for their support and participation in PGO which was launched on 25th November 2023 at The Esplanade.

Some Key Take Away from the speeches, Motivational Talk and Q&A Session included 1. Drug Abuse & Misuse start at the appalling young age of seven; 2. Poor parenting as being a root cause and concern (for Bullying in Schools); 3. Types of Bullying including Physical, Verbal, Social, Sexual and Cyberbullying; 4. Youths & Social ills of today with Social Media, Evolving Technologies and Artificial Intelligence; 5. Students exposure to influence outside of school hours (7 hours) by family life, neighborhood; 6. “Do not do unto others what you do not want others to do unto you”; 7. The shocking statistics of at least one in five students having been exposed to some form of cyberbullying which generally start from Form One; 8. Urging of parents (and guardians) to be observant of any change(s) in their children’s behavior; and 10. To rely on ‘Factual Feedbacks’. As a short recap, MCPF Penang and its DLCs managed to be involved as being involved in the talks itself or being present at these eight schools in the Anti-Bullying talks as organized by PWDC in collaboration with Pejabat Pendidikan Daerah (District School Offices); PDRM (JPJKK / PPS – Pegawai Perhubungan Sekolah) in these eight schools: 1. SMK Batu Maung (Barat Daya); 2. SMK Saujana Indah, Nibong Tebal (SPS); 3. SMK Methodist Boys Schools (MBS) (Timur Laut); 4. SMK Sungai Ara (Barat Daya); 5. SMK Convent Butterworth (SPU); 6. SMK Guah Perahu Indah (SPT); 7. SMK Guah Perahu (SPT); and 8. SMK (P) St. George (Timur Laut).
