
MCPF Penang led by Deputy Chairman YBhg. Dato’ Seri K. Pulayantran accompanied by Committee Members YBhg. Dato’ M. Kaleesvaran, Joseph Sawaremuthu and Rahumathullah Ibrahim met up with NGO Hindu Sangam at their office in Bandar Perda Jaya on 24th February 2024. Mr. A. Tharman, Chairman of Malaysia Hindu Sangam Penang Council was accompanied by Dr. Kalaivani, Chairperson of Women, Family & Social Welfare; Mr. Krishnaverni, Honorary Treasurer and Mdm. Gokilam, Asst. Treasurer. Dato’ Seri K. Pulayantran briefed the hosts on the role of MCPF and on the objective of the meeting to commence joint programs with Hindu Sangam on crime prevention for the benefit of the Indian community in Penang. The focus will be to help reduce crime and drug addiction in the Indian community and in Tamil schools. Three main programs to be organized for the year 2024 were brainstormed including a half day forum on crime prevention and Train The Trainer (TTT) program for Indian NGOs and temple councils; conducting joint crime prevention programs in Tamil schools in Penang focusing on bullying, drugs misuse, gangsterism and scams; and, including Crime Prevention briefing during the annual ‘Maanila Thirumarai’ competition (recital of poems by an Indian Philosopher in Aug / Sept which will have the participation of 17/18 year old children. A task force will be formed to conduct these programs together with PDRM. Further meetings will follow to finalize details under the leadership of Dato’ M. Kaleesvaran.
