
A workshop for Kelab Pencegahan Jenayah (KPJ) improvements was jointly organized by the Penang State Education Department (JPNPP) and MCPF Penang at SK Perempuan Island, George Town on 20th August 2024. The key objectives of this workshop included 1. To organize Crime Prevention programs with KPJs of 12 selected schools (5 Secondary, 7 Primary [including 2 Tamil and Chinese Schools]; 2. To focus on the main issues i.e. Anti-Bullying and Sexual Harassment; 3. To work closely with the Police (PPS / JPJKK), AADK, WCC, PWDC and other related Agencies. The participants comprised of KPJ and HEM (Hal Ehwal Murid [Student Affairs]) JPNPP Officers; MCPF Penang SLC and DLCs; as well as 27 school teachers from the 12 participating schools. MCPF Penang Secretary Mr. JM Tan and Committee Member Encik Rahumathullah Ibrahim; MCPF Barat Daya DLC Chairman Mr. James Mohan; MCPF Timur Laut DLC Vice-Chairman II Y.Bhg. Dato’ Mohd Nashir Ya; MCPF SPU Secretary Mr. Haribalan Gopal; MCPF SPT Chairman Encik Ridzuan Md Zain and MCPF SPS Committee Member Mr. Komagan a/l Lingam were present to help facilitate the meeting and the District level ‘breakout’ session. JPNPP Assistant Director Cikgu Fadzil Sadikin (also MCPF Penang SLC ex-officio) delivered the Welcome Remarks. The Opening Address was delivered by JM Tan on behalf of MCPF Penang Chairman Y.Bhg. Dato’ Seri Ong Poh Eng. The representative school teachers from the 12 Schools covering all 5 Penang state Districts shared their 2024 YTD Crime Prevention programs / activities with varying support and cooperation from PDRM Pegawai Perhubungan Sekolah (PPS), AADK, WCC and other NGOs / Agencies.

The breakout Brainstorming Session was the highlight of this Workshop where the District Level School / PPD / MCPF DLC had positive ideas and alignment of their programs / activities. Each District had unique yet common vision of Crime Prevention programs / activities… e.g. SPT: Visit to Jawi Prison; Barat Daya: ‘Bersatu Cegah Jenayah’; TImur Laut: Carnival Anti-Jenayah; SPS: Program Cegah Jenayah’ Madani; SPU: Bengkel Pengurusan Emosi. Cikgu Fadzil Sadikin shared the wrap up comments, next steps to be taken and how these 12 schools would be the catalyst for further shared learnings, adoption / adaptation and implementation by 40 schools in 2025. In the Closing Remarks, JM Tan conveyed the appreciation of Y.Bhg. Dato’ Seri Ong Poh Eng to enhance Crime Prevention Awareness efforts in Penang State schools. He iterated the importance of synergistic participation by JPNPP, PPD and MCPF SLC / DLCs and underlined these 12 schools as being the “Manager’s Model” for the other schools KPJ progress, success, revival and revitalization with high Team Spirit, and abundance mentality to share key results and learnings toward continual improvements.
